“An American, a Negro; two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder.”

Buckery, Danielle. "Dissecting the "Double-Consciousness": Expanding upon the Theories of W.E.B. Du Bois and The Souls of Black Folk www.illegalvoices.org Sep. 2004

The effects of living in Du Bois’ double-consciousness theory and finding out how one should go about priorizing such an enigmatic reality. Considering nowadays that there are multiple mixed races had Dubois created this theory in this day and time perhaps he would have applied the theory of a "triple" or "quadruple" consciousness.

McWhorter, John H. "Double Consciousness in Black America." CATO Policy Report,Vol. XXV No.2 March/April 2003.

DuBois’s teachings apply as well to black Americans over a century later. Black America today is permeated by a new double consciousness. A tacit sense reigns among a great many black Americans today that the "authentic" black person stresses personal initiative and strengthin private but dutifully takes on the mantle of victimhood in public. DuBois’s conception remains relevant, but only in a reflex evolved from the one that he described.

Thomas, Roderick H. “Exploring Double Consciousness within the Hispanic Male Community.” Latinos in Missouri Occasional Paper Series, No. 3 Department of Rural Sociology, Univerisity of Missouri-Columbia. http://www.ssu.missouri.edu/ruralsoc/ January 2002

A comparative study between Hispanic and African American men to explore differences on several issues such as assimilation, perceptions of law enforcement, and socioeconomic status, questioning whether or not Hispanic males were finding the need to develop front stage and back stage personalities, or a double consciousness, to assimilate into American society.
